One of the focus areas of our Child Protection Program is Education and Skills training. The objective of this program is to empower the children by making sure that they are able to make informed choices on issues such as HIV and AIDS and are well prepared for future employment. Education provides protection against destitution and all forms of exploitation.

The Program Covers Early Childhood Development, vocational training, Primary, Secondary and University education. We provide education materials, fees and school transport.

In 2010, the education program is being scaled up to include vulnerable children in six new schools in Coast and Central provinces who will be supported at household level.

Early Childhood Development (ECD)

ECD provides special preparation for the young ones (2-6 years) in 3 categories: KG1 (Kindergarten), KG2 and KG3, in a homely and child friendly environment which includes mothering, nutrition, guidance and healthcare. Our ECD program utilises music, games and other interesting activities that also prepare the children for mainstream Primary education.

Skills Training

The skills training program aims to equip the youth with relevant livelihood skills ranging from tailoring and dressmaking, cookery, to computer skills. The program also provides opportunities for attachments where students can put their skills to work in a real business environment. We also have tailoring and cookery production units that engage the graduates, enabling them to refine their skills. Our graduates are therefore employable as Domestic Assistants and in the hotel industry, as well as in their own small businesses.
